Meeting attendees introduced themselves. Welcome new members!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Devine asked participants to look over the SAC meeting minutes from May. Mrs. Sellers motioned to approve the May minutes, seconded by Mrs. Ortbals. May meeting minutes were approved with none opposed.<\/p>\n<h2>Principal\u2019s News<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mr. Kasting expressed that we have had an exciting start to the year and things have gone super smoothly.<\/li>\n<li>LMS hired three new teachers and three new paraprofessionals. We are very fortunate for their help with PE, clerical work in the front office and media center, and school security\/lunch duties.<\/li>\n<li>Students just wrapped up PM1 in math and ELA. The ELA results were really good! Testing went smoothly.<\/li>\n<li>We are going to have a new weightlifting team at LMS. The old weight room has been cleaned out, and new equipment has been provided by an anonymous parent donation. The new weight room can be used by faculty after school.<\/li>\n<li>Lenoards is providing Ms. Armstrong\u2019s art hallway with an art word wall.<\/li>\n<li>PTO is moving forward with a new digital marquee out front. Ms. Cartwright said the specs are approved and it should be installed sometime between February and April of this year.<\/li>\n<li>This year\u2019s SIP plan includes a focus on attendance, acceleration programs, and small-group instruction.<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Mr. Kasting stated that the attendance messaging focused on the value of being at school. Mr. Barnes sent out an infographic via ParentSquare earlier this year showing that our absentee rate is around 15.4% or 128 students, most of which are 8th graders. Mr. Kasting added that Dean Grall is monitoring the number of chronically absent students.<\/li>\n<li>Mr. Kasting stated that LMS easily has some of the highest performing kids, with an acceleration rate close to 98%.<\/li>\n<li>He also stated that small group instruction will be a part of teacher deliberate growth plans this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Mr. Kasting gave a shoutout to Mr. Stevens (band teacher) who is fundraising for his program and Ms. Baker (drama teacher) who will have two productions this school year in the fall and spring (Cyrano de BurgerShack and Percy Jackson).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Budget Update<\/h2>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"col\">Account<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Amount<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>SAC account<\/td>\n<td>$3,494.55<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>School Rec. PTO helped with the W.E.B. program, Meet-the-Teacher, and decorating\/providing refreshments to teachers and staff in the staff lounge.<\/li>\n<li>The 6th grade bowling event went well. The 7th bowling event is coming up on Oct. 19. Families are encouraged to RSVP because spots are limited and will be filled on a first come first served basis.<\/li>\n<li>PTO is also actively planning the 8th grade graduation events including the dance and graduation ceremony. Details TBD.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>New Business<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Members reviewed changes to SAC\u2019s bylaws. Updates to the bylaws were made to accommodate the newest Sunshine State Laws (indicating that participants must attend and vote in person for a quorum to be reached), to eliminate the need for officer positions apart from chair\/co-chair, and to give school administrators the ability to appoint SAC chairs\/co-chairs if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Mrs. Ortbals moved to approve the new bylaws. Mrs. Lundsford seconded the motion.<\/li>\n<li>The updated bylaws were approved with none opposed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Old Business<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Participants discussed how the IXL program was going. Some parents shared that their students were starting to use it. Anna Sellers (student) commented that the program is being used in class, but that if students miss a question, they have more questions to answer. Overall, the feedback was that IXL is going very well so far.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>School Board Member Report<\/h2>\n<p>N\/A<\/p>\n<h2>Adjournment<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mrs. Ortbals moved to adjourn. Mrs. Sellar seconded the motion.
