Landrum Lions Took this FLYRA MS STATE Meet to a Whole new Level!
What a Ferocious finish for the LIONS!
Kicking off Friday with fierce competition-
Girls 3000meters: out of the 48 that qualified- Piper Ross Finished in the top 10! 9th overall and place Landrum on the scoring board with 2 points. (rising freshman- start thinking in points- gaining even 1 point matters)
Boys 3000 meters: out of 80 runners. Alex Chen moved from a 10:36 to a 10:18!!! Incredible PR- passing and racing like a Super Landrum Lion! Incredible and exciting to watch!
Saturday Showdown!
Girls 4×800: Lets get this Day started with the Lead Mackey showing full power in opening leg, Henderson Hammering away and passing ladies, Lay it down Lommel to set the stage for Piper Ross to finish with a 2:30 split! (That’s a HS time in MS!)
Boys 4×800: Can it get any better! The boys followed suit with Alex Chen matching his PR after an excellent evening- clocking 2:26 on the clock, Jack Marciani taking strides strong and handing off to Ethan Powell full of power for 2 laps- WAIT- WHAT WAS THAT? A BATON FLYING IN THE AIR! No problem for our boys. Ben Kimber finally took hold and led the boys to a top ten finish in the MS Public School 4×800 relay pool!
Girls 1500: Piper Ross- took out after running two events on a mission for a medal. Accomplished. More points for Landrum Lions! 6th Place out of 64!
Boys 400: Ben took charge in a fast heat! With Fast Feet– placing 5th out of 27 runners! Incredible! Boys get Podium!
Boys 800: Now this is where it starts! Ben is not in fast heat. Goes out fast- 58 – for a 400. Finishes with a 207.61. HMMMM…what can the “Fast” heat do. Well good coaches fill their runners in on previous heat times, but apparently no one noticed Ben’s Rock Star Seed! The fast heat went out way too slow to beat BEN! They all thought we sand-bagged it! Silly people. STATE CHAMPION: BENJAMIN KIMBER 800M
Girls 4×400: Did anyone witness this ROCKSTAR event!!! Wow- it was exciting from the start to bell lap! Girls led with Aurianne Klone! What a lead! Lucy Lommel took the baton with force to hand off to Makayla. What a lap to watch as Makayla Ryan took charge to lead! Gia Moyer finished strong! Girls placed 21 out of 34.
Boys 4×400: Who are these Boys!!! We had 4 boys travel to Bradenton on a free weekend to run. It’s a 5 hour drive. As coaches we understand parents and what they go through. SO THANK YOU PARENTS!!!
Yet- these 4 boys- at 5pm in the blazing sun- spiked up and went to check in. Ankles hurting, legs tired, sunburned…Did they give it their all? YES- they followed suit with the girls and team- And GAVE it their absolute best effort!
